Approach

I am Iowa born and raised, and I came to this the long way round. I left Iowa State in 2009 with a degree in kinesiology and health and went off to work at a physical therapy clinic in Sterling, Virginia. Then someone asked me to photograph their wedding in Kearney, Nebraska, I said yes with a Canon T3i and very little idea what I was doing, and that was more or less that.

What I care about is connection. Not the posing, not the props, not a shot list copied off the internet, but whether the two of you actually look like yourselves when you are standing next to each other. So I stay close, I keep it easy, and I photograph what is already happening rather than arranging something that is not.

My husband and I moved back to the Midwest to raise our family near our own, and we are just outside Des Moines now with Isabella, Ashton and Sawyer, and a goldendoodle called Bailey. When I am not shooting I am teaching spin classes in Waukee, coaching youth sports, or watching Iowa State.
